MEASURING TAPE
This is a collaboration project with Alex, whose subject focuses on recycling and repurposing. Together, we aim to etch life quotes onto a measuring tape and remove its numerical markings, merging the concepts of measurement and personal growth while giving new purpose to the tape. The goal is to create a symbolic representation of how we measure our journeys—both successes and failures—through meaningful words.
Process
Alex had removed the numerical markings from the measuring tape, and we had booked a laser cutting session. It was our first time etching on metal, so we were instructed to spray a white coating on the measuring tape before beginning the process. Initially, we etched the text fully in black, but the results were disappointing—the black markings were easy to wipe off and faded quickly, even after two passes with the laser. We then tried using a different laser cutting machine and experimented with etching only the outlines. This approach produced much better results, so we decided to proceed with etching the outlines only.

Final Outcome
