MEASURE FOR MEASURE

How many words or pages can a single pencil write? This curiosity led me to explore the lifespan of a pencil by measuring how much it can produce before being fully used up. After discussing this idea with Jez, he suggested the phrase “Measure for Measure,” inspired by William Shakespeare, which aligns with the theme of measurement in both a literal and conceptual sense. To test this, I wrote continuously until the pencil was completely used up, filling seven A1-sized sheets of paper. I then transformed the results into an accordion book, allowing the lengthy handwritten text to unfold and visually communicate the gradual consumption of the pencil—turning a simple act of writing into a tangible form of measurement.
